Digitization of administration
Our claim: Demand digitalization, promote digitalization
The city needs digitalization. This is what citizens expect and what legislators are demanding with the Online Access Act. The task facing municipal administrations is to create digital services that benefit everyone – citizens, businesses and the city.
Are you familiar with administrative processes in which written or computer-filled applications are sent in by post or e-mail and then printed out at the authority before being typed back into a specialist procedure (if one already exists)? Entire storerooms for storing submitted documents, sources of error when transferring data, delays in processing because the pile of paper does not move from desk A to B …?
That is set to change. Our aim as Stadtmanufaktur is to always consider digital possibilities in our projects, to show cities and municipalities the opportunities of digitalization and to support them in implementing them.
Digitalization: great opportunities, great challenges
It is crucial that cities and municipalities now recognize, evaluate and implement their digitalization potential in a targeted manner. The Online Access Act is an important impetus here: it obliges municipalities to digitize administrative services.
Attractive offers for citizens and companies are one thing, but digitalization can do so much more: Digitalization helps cities and municipalities,
- to create visibility,
- to facilitate access,
- to enable new perspectives,
- optimize processes,
- to realize opportunities,
- to save resources or use them in a targeted manner and
- to relieve and support employees in their work.
Another aspect is that the digitalization of administration to date has primarily been shaped by male consultants and established administrative IT service providers who tend to preserve their status quo. This was the right and sensible way to introduce opportunities, but it was also associated with high costs.
Now, experienced, heterogeneous digitalization people are needed to make efficient and effective progress: trend-setting architectural landscapes, swiftly provided solutions, market-driven costs and user-centric mindsets. The prerequisite is that the requirements for the IT systems and IT service providers have been precisely defined and agreed with the relevant stakeholders. This is where problems, inconsistencies and time losses often arise – which do not have to be the case.
We support cities and municipalities in evaluating digitalization potential and implementing projects that offer real added value. Our team for you: Stadtmanufaktur expert Jan Wegener and our network of digitalization experts.
